7 Things I’d Do If I Owned a Moving Company in Nebraska (From a Marketing Expert)
Hi, I’m Nathan Murray, the founder of Murray Marketing Services, right here in Kearney, Nebraska.
Over the years, I’ve worked with dozens of service-based businesses, including moving companies, to help them grow and thrive. I’ve seen firsthand what works (and what doesn’t!) in digital marketing, and I’m here to share exactly what I’d do if I were in your shoes.
These aren’t generic tips. They’re real, practical steps based on the proven strategies I use every day for my clients. Like Harvest Movers, which went from $55,000 a month in revenue to $105,000 in revenue. Or All Seasons Movers, who got 600+ leads in under 5 months at a 30% conversion rate.
So let’s get into it: here are the 7 things I’d do if I owned a moving company in Nebraska in 2026!
1. Claim and Optimize Your Google Business Profile
The first thing I’d do is set up and fully optimize my Google Business Profile (GBP).
Think of GBP as the modern-day phone book listing. When someone types in “movers near me” or “moving company in Nebraska,” your GBP is what shows up first, right at the top of Google Maps and search results. It’s completely free, and it’s where people go to check if you’re real and reliable.
But don’t just claim it and leave it blank,
you have to fully optimize it:
- Upload a ton of high-quality photos: your trucks, your crew, in-progress moves, happy customers.
- Write a killer business description that talks about who you are, what you offer, and where you serve. This is where you need to sprinkle in those local SEO keywords like “moving company in Kearney,” “packing and unpacking in Grand Island,” and so on.
- Add all your services: don’t just list them in your services section, but also as “products.” In moving, these “products” might be things like long-distance moving, piano moving, packing/unpacking, or storage. This sends clear signals to Google about what you do.
When you do this right, it tells Google: “Hey, I’m not just a moving company. I do everything that matters in moving, right here in [your city].”

2. Build a Professional Movers Website That’s Local-SEO Ready
After GBP, your website is where I’d put my energy. It’s your online home base. It should answer the big three questions within seconds:
- Who are you?
- Where do you work?
- How do people get in touch with you right now?
Here’s what I’d focus on:
- Make it feel real. Show your crew, your trucks, your local jobs. Stock photos don’t build trust. Real photos do.
- Highlight reviews. Display those 5-star reviews front and center. People want proof.
- Local SEO basics. Use natural language that includes your services and city names. You don’t need to keyword-stuff, but Google should see phrases like “movers in Lincoln,” “Nebraska piano moving,” “local moving services in Hastings,” etc.
- Separate service pages. Don’t cram everything on your homepage. Have a dedicated page for long-distance moving, one for packing and unpacking, one for local moves, etc. That way, when someone’s looking for exactly that service, Google knows you’re the answer.
And always make it easy for people to take the next step: call you or request a quote. Big, bold buttons. Phone number at the top. Keep it simple.

3. Nail Your SEO for Local Moving Searches
I can’t stress this enough: local SEO is what’s going to keep you showing up when people search.
Here’s how I’d do it if I owned the company:
- Use the right keywords in your page titles, meta descriptions, and header tags by including terms like “movers in Nebraska,” “local moving company,” or “packing services in Kearney.”
- Write like a human! Use these keywords naturally in your content so it’s helpful, not spammy.
- Link everything together, your Google Business Profile, your website, your other local listings, so Google sees one consistent, trusted brand.
And don’t forget about off-page signals: your citations on Yelp, Angi, Thumbtack, and HomeAdvisor all play a part in local SEO.
Most moving companies skip these details. But if you get them right, you’ll stand out.

4. Run Google Local Service Ads (Google Guaranteed)
Next, I’d set up Local Service Ads on Google. These are the little “Google Guaranteed” listings at the top of search results.
Why do I love them? Because:
- You only pay for actual phone calls, real people looking to move, not random clicks.
- If it’s a bad call (like someone looking for junk removal and you don’t do it), you can dispute the charge.
- They come with a trust badge that says “Google backs this business.” That’s huge for moving companies.
But to win with LSAs, you need to have good reviews. Google wants to show the best of the best. So if you’re serious, focus on getting those 5-star reviews from every happy customer.

5. High-Intent Google Search Ads for Ready to Book Moving Jobs
If I wanted to ramp up fast, I’d go straight to high-intent Google Search Ads.
These are the ads that show when someone types in “moving companies near me” or “best piano movers in Lincoln.”
Here’s how I’d do it:
- Only target the high-intent search phrases like “movers in Nebraska,” “loading and unloading in [your city],” or “moving company near me.”
- Only run them in your exact service area. No sense paying for clicks in cities you don’t cover!
- Keep your ad copy simple, clear, and action-focused. Stuff like “Call Now for a Free Moving Quote” or “Get Help from Nebraska’s Top Movers.”
Compared to LSAs, you pay per click instead of per call. But often you get more volume and cheaper leads if you set them up right.

6. Don’t Overlook Local Listings on Other Moving Directories
Google is #1. But don’t forget about Bing, Yelp, Angi, and the rest.
I’d make sure to:
- Claim and verify every listing I can find free and easy.
- Keep everything consistent: name, address, phone number, and website should match
exactly everywhere.
- Add real photos and a good business description to each listing.
I don’t usually recommend running ads on these platforms because Google Ads usually deliver better leads and ROI. But these listings matter because they’re another trust signal. They help fill in the gaps and keep you looking legit.

7. Prioritize Reviews and Automate the Process
I’ve said it a few times, but I’ll say it again: reviews are everything.
Here’s what I’d do:
- Train my team to ask for a review at the
peak happiness moment, right after the move is done and they’re super happy!
- Make it dead simple for customers: a QR code to scan or a link to click. Don’t make them search for your Google listing themselves.
- Ask in person, face-to-face. This is way more effective than an email alone.
- Use a review automation system. I’d set it up so that as soon as I mark the job as complete in my CRM, it automatically sends a text and email to the customer asking for their feedback.
If they leave 4 or 5 stars, it goes straight to Google. If it’s 3 or below, it goes to a private contact form on my website so I can fix it before it goes public.
Here’s why reviews matter so much:
- They make your Google Business Profile and Local Service Ads stand out
- They show up on your website
- They lower your cost per lead because Google sees you’re trustworthy
- They’re often the
only thing people care about before they call you!
If you’re not doing anything else,
start with reviews. They feed into everything else.

Bonus Ideas to Keep Growing Your Moving Company
If you’ve got these 7 pieces dialed in, here are three more moves I’d look at next:
- Set up a referral program to turn happy customers into lead-generators
- Run Meta Ads (Facebook and Instagram) to stay top of mind for anyone who’s visited your website
- Use Google’s Performance Max campaigns to run ads across YouTube, Gmail, Display, and Search all in one go
